Hello. My name is Andrew Silver and I’d like to tell you a bit about my journey to becoming a Real Estate agent…
I grew up in Pinetown and graduated from Pinetown Boy’s High in 1987. After serving 2 years in the SADF I went to Bible College where I met my wife, who grew up in Kloof. She went on to study Occupational Therapy at UDW. During her last year at university, she was offered a traveling position as an OT in the USA. So, being newly married and having no children yet, we decided to take up the offer and move to the US.
We expected to be there for 1 or 2 years, but it ended up being 25 years! During that time, we had 3 children and one grandchild and lived in 4 different States. I’ve worked as a computer technician, cable guy and in construction as a low-voltage technician. I also spent 8 years in the Granite industry, fabricating granite countertops. In 2009 I quit all that to homeschool our children and help my wife start a Pediatric Occupational Therapy clinic in Kernersville, North Carolina.
In 2020, in the middle of COVID, we decided to move back to South Africa to be with family after my mom passed away. Crazy heh!?! We tried to keep our business running in the US, but it proved to difficult to manage employees half way around the world. So, in May, 2022, we were forced to close our business in the US. My wife found employment at a Special Needs school, but I needed a new career. With my son Matriculating in 2023, we went to a career day at Kearsney where I got talking to a Real Estate agent who was promoting Real Estate as a career.
That, as they wrote, was that… I had found my calling. My love language is serving, and this is the perfect way to serve people – helping people with one of the biggest decisions of their lives. I am loving what I’m doing, and have found a family at Harcourts. I plan to be in this industry for many years to come and look forward to helping you with your property needs.
