Amanzimtoti

History
According to local legend, in 1828, when the Zulu King, Shaka, led his army down the south coast, he rested on the banks of a river.  After tasing the water, he exclaimed 'Kanti amanzi amtoti' meaning the water is sweet.  The river became known as Amanzimtoti.

Location
Only 45 minutes from King Shaka International airport and 25 minutes to Durban's Central Business District lies the town of Amanzimtoti, the gateway to the south coast.

The sardine run of Southern Africa occurs from May - July, billions of sardines pass through the cold Agulhas Bank moving north along the east coast, usually passing through Amanzimtoti towards the end of June, it's a splendid sight to see.

There is also an ice rink, cinema, games arcade, beach horse riding trails, Ilanda Wilds, Umdoni Bird Sanctuary and scuba diving. 

Restaurants
Families enjoy almost every mainstream franchise restaurant in SA, as well as the popular Lords and Legends Sports Bar and Restaurant.  Other restaurants include Ollie's Pub and Grill, Valentino's, Tiago's, Mr Brown's, Zanzibar Restaurant Cocktail and Sushi Bar, Trinidad and Giorgio's.
