Originally called Rio de Natal by Vasco d Gama when he visited in 1497 Durban later received its name from a governor of the Cape Colony named Sir Benjamin D'Urban.  Durban is a cultural melting pot of diversity, ethnicity and top-class cuisine that represents culinary influences from around the world.  Located on the northeast coast of South Africa and being the biggest port, Durban is the heart of Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Durban is 30 kms from the King Shaka International airport and close to Umhlanga in the North, Amanzimtoti in the South and the Upper Highway area inland.

The Moses Mabida stadium built for the 2010 soccer world cup is a hot spot for music and sporting events. It's home to the Big Rush swing mounted 80m above the ground on the stadiums graceful arch and is the world's tallest swing. You can climb the stairs to the top of the arch or take the SkyCar to admire magnificent panoramic views of the coast and the city.
