Crab Creek Aquaponics is fully cycled aquaponics facility with all the infrastructure in place. This system utilises traditional gravel media beds and deep water culture growing techniques that have been built from the ground up. Crab Creek Aquaponics is based in Port Alfred, Eastern Cape and located a few kilometers out of town situated on a 2,4 ha smallholding. The infrastructure consists of a recently constructed 3-bedroomed cottage and a processing facility of 164 m2 built with cool room panels. There is an 840 m2 multispan tunnel hosing the aquaponics system, raised beds and fish tanks. There are 8 worm bins which produce high quality worm tea which acts as a natural fertiliser and pest control. A solar inverter and batteries that deliver 15 KW provide a backup when Eskom is down. In a separate tunnel there are a 1,000 grow bags that can be used to grow a broad spectrum of plant species. A fully equipped borehole feeds a reverse osmosis plant that provides water for the farm. The property is enclosed with an electric fence and access gates.
