Randhart, Alberton

Alberton is a one-of-a-kind town with a rich and interesting history. Following the Anglo-Boer War of 1899-1902, the Alberton Estate Syndicate of Germiston approached the Meyer family about purchasing land to construct a town that would be close enough to Johannesburg for work but far enough away from the city to be considered a rural community. In 1904, the land was sold for the sum of 20,000 pounds, and the new town of Alberton was founded. Alberton was officially established as a township in 1909.
